Binu Paul has profound experience in fund management, fintech, and regulation. In the past 25 years, he has held various positions such as consultant, chief executive officer, and director in many private and public organizations, and has founded and managed multiple fintech startups and expansion enterprises. His rich and diverse experiences have transformed into profound insights in the field of digital assets and financial regulation, and have also accumulated innovative and practical solutions for dealing with various risk challenges.
As the head of the digital assets department of the UK Financial Conduct Authority, built a new department and capability to enable the regulation of digital assets in the UK.
At the New Zealand Financial Markets Authority, provided specialist expertise to the C-suite and the FMA Board on the impact of technology on traditional financial services and products, supporting policy development, and launched a high impact cross-Governmental regulatory advice service for fintechs.
As the first chairman of the Digital and Innovation Forum of the New Zealand Financial Regulatory Commission (members include the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, the Financial Markets Authority, the Commerce Commission, etc.), he provides regulatory and policy guidance for the integration and innovation of technology and financial services, including in the fields of private digital assets, artificial intelligence, and central bank digital currencies.
Founded and organised New Zealand’s first and longest running annual FinTech conference series, FINNOTEC to promote the development of New Zealand's fintech community and help more than 23 startups launch.
Co-founded FinTech NZ, New Zealand’s fintech industry association and has extensive relationships with boards of directors and trustees of management and financial service institutions, local government agencies, non-profit organizations, enterprises, and endowment funds.
Founded SavvyKiwi, a fintech product to help users manage their pension, a first in New Zealand.
As the chief executive officer of New Zealand’s largest funds management research and asset consulting business providing investment research and asset consulting services to the financial sector.
